In early 2020, Expert Analytics was approached by one of our clients with a need to monitor the health of their hydro power plant generators. To get the massive generators into the mountain halls, the stators had to be split into two cores. Once inside the mountain the stator cores were bolted together. Due to the massive forces exerted on the bolts, a tight monitoring regime was required on the core joints. Domain experts would not only use different sensors to monitor the health of the generators, but would also listen for normal or abnormal sounds. From this, the idea of expanding on this method with audio analysis sprung
